The quality of a Grace Academy education is made possible by
the commitment of dedicated community leaders in collaboration with many
organizations and institutions.
The organizations listed here are using their expertise to provide a quality education that develops the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual potential of young women from the most vulnerable neighborhoods in Hartford.
-Leadership Greater Hartford (2010-2011) provided a “Quest” team of 10 members with Grace Academy as its focus! The team has provided support and advice for the creation of our library, marketing materials and more.
-The Ethel Walker School is a partner in the creation and nurturing of Grace Academy teachers and students. Ethel Walker teachers will serve as mentors to Grace Academy teachers, will provide specialty instructional support for students (in languages and the arts), will host Grace Academy for a summer session and will collaborate on community service and other projects.
-Faculty and students at Miss Porter's School meet with Grace Academy students on Wednesdays for mentoring, tutoring, music lessons, and activities. The Miss Porter’s team of volunteers also arrange field trips and exchange programs.
-Soroptimisit. This international organization for business and professional women works to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. Members of the Farmington Valley chapter are involved with tutoring, art, photography, mentoring, activity coordination, etiquette training, culinary arts, fundraising and more.
-The House of Bread provides a hot lunch for our students each Wednesday.
-Hands On Hartford recruits volunteer tutors for our after school study hall, provides school supplies and a weekend nutritional food “backpack” for the student and her family.
-Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford is committed to providing our parents with services including classes in ESL (English as a second language) and obtaining a GED (High school Graduate Equivalent Diploma).
-Goodwin College will provide a free Associate's degree to qualifying parents who are interested in course work such as: business administration, homeland security, criminal justice, early childhood education, environmental studies, human services and more.
-Junior Achievement provides “hands on” education for our students in work force readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
-University of Hartford is providing housing for our four AmeriCorps teaching fellows.
-Girl Scouts of Connecticut will provide a summer camp experience at one of their 12 campsites, field trips as part of their science curriculum, and science curriculum (Science in a Box). They will also focus on Leadership and self-esteem development during extended day hours.
-Charter Oak Cultural Center will be working with our students on art, music, choir and dance.
-Billings Forge will offer culinary and nutrition classes to our students and their parents. They may also use their “Artists in Residence” program for workshops.
-The YWCA of the Hartford Region invites all to a free Money Conference for Women on October 23, 2010. They also provide free income tax assistance from February through April.
-The YMCA provides free income tax assistance from February through April.
-Pro Bono Partnership, Inc. has provided legal services for incorporation, our 501(c)3 status, Handbooks, site location agreement, and more.
-Horns for Kids donated musical instruments.
-East Catholic High School provided student volunteers during the summer and will continue to do so for tutoring and field trips during the school year.
